Who runs my park district?

An Illinois park district is a government you elect and most people never vote in. It levies its own tax, runs the pools and the playing fields, and its commissioners are on the same ballot as the offices everybody has heard of. This names the 330 commissioners and officers of the 163 districts that file an annual report with the state.

What the lookup shows

Elected commissioners, appointed staff

Park district commissioners are elected, and a park district is its own unit of government rather than a department of the city it is named after. The Role column tells the two kinds of name apart: a president, treasurer, secretary or commissioner sits on the elected board, while a director, superintendent, accountant or finance officer is staff the board employs.

These filings name more staff than commissioners, and that is the form rather than the board: an Annual Financial Report is about money, so a district files whoever signs for it. A short board here is what the form had room for, never a claim about the board's size.

Where to reach each district

Where 142 of these park districts say to reach them, in their own filings. The address and the telephone here belong to the district rather than to any one person on it: each is one that two different people on the filing both gave. The table above prints a telephone beside a person's name where the filing lists it for that person alone. E-mail addresses, the district's own and each person's, are on the map's card and not on this page.

Where the names come from

Every name here is from the district's own Annual Financial Report, filed with the Illinois Comptroller, re-read on a schedule and landing as a reviewed pull request. Each filing names the fiscal year it covers, and the form has room for four names — so a board of seven can only ever file some of them, and a short list here is the form's limit rather than the whole board.

A district that crosses a county line files once, under the county it is based in, which is why one you meet in one county can be named for another. The name on each row is the one the district files under; the map's card uses whatever label the county's own boundary layer prints, which is sometimes just a village name or a number.

Who runs each park district

All 330 commissioners and officers of the Illinois park districts that file with the Comptroller, as this site had them on September 11, 2026. The map above reads the same roster, so a card and this table cannot disagree — but a table is a claim about a day, and this one names its day. Where the roster names nobody it says so rather than guessing. Where these names come from.
