Who are my county commissioners?

Indiana county commissioners and county council members — 91 of 92 counties, free, by address, ZIP, or a tap on the map.

An Indiana county is run by two elected bodies: a board of three commissioners and a county council. The commissioners run the county and pass its ordinances; the council, seven members in most counties, sets its budget and its taxes. The lookup finds your county and lists who won every seat on both at the most recent election.

What the lookup shows

Select any point in Indiana and the county card names the county, then lists every seat on its board of commissioners and its county council, with the person who won each one and the date of that election.

It lists every seat in the county rather than only yours, because the district lines of neither body are on the map yet. Three council seats in most counties are elected by the whole county ("at large"), so those three are yours wherever you live in it.

Where the names come from, and what they are not

The Indiana Election Division publishes the certified results of every general election, office by office. Commissioners serve four-year terms on a staggered schedule, and council members four-year terms with the district seats and the at-large seats elected two years apart, so the 2022 and 2024 elections between them name a winner for every seat. The list is re-read every week, and a new election's winners are added on the January 1 they take office.

A winner is not always the person in the seat today. Indiana fills a vacancy by a party caucus, not an election, so someone appointed since does not appear in any result and the person who won still shows here. Your county's own website is the current word.

Marion County is not listed. Indianapolis and Marion County share one government, and its council is the Indianapolis City-County Council, which this app does not show yet.

Where the boundaries come from

The county lines come from the U.S. Census Bureau. The commissioner and council district lines are not on the map yet; the state's geographic information office publishes them for about two thirds of the counties, and drawing them is the next change. Every source is on the sources & data layers page.

Not for legal or official use. Boundary and election data come from public sources that explicitly disclaim legal precision. Confirm officeholders with your county before relying on them for anything official.
