Who runs my county?

Missouri county commissions, councils and elected county officers — all 114 counties, free, by address, ZIP, or a tap on the map.

Most Missouri counties are governed by a county commission. In 110 of the 114 counties the commission is a presiding commissioner, elected by the whole county, and two district commissioners, each elected by the voters of one half of it; Clay County elects six. St. Louis, St. Charles and Jefferson counties are governed by a county council and Jackson County by a county legislature, each elected from districts beside a county executive. The City of St. Louis belongs to no county and is governed by its mayor and Board of Aldermen. The lookup finds your county and lists who sits on its governing body and who holds its elected offices.

What the lookup shows

Select any point in Missouri and the county card names the county, then lists its governing body — the presiding commissioner and district commissioners, or the council or legislature and the county executive — and its elected officers, such as the clerk, assessor, collector, sheriff and prosecuting attorney, with the telephone and e-mail the roster prints for each.

In the counties whose commission district lines are on the map, the commission district card also names the district commissioner for the point you picked. The other counties are shaded on the map, and their county card still lists the whole commission.

Where the names come from

The Missouri Secretary of State publishes the Missouri Roster every two years, with every county's commission or council and its elected officers. This app reads it every week and lists the officials as the roster prints them, so a change on a board can take until the next edition to appear here, and your county's own website is the current word.

The members of the St. Charles County and Jefferson County councils and the Jackson County Legislature come from each county's own website instead, which those counties keep up to date between editions of the roster. Jackson County's executive was recalled after the roster was printed, so this app does not name one there yet.

Where the boundaries come from

The county lines come from the U.S. Census Bureau. No statewide map of county commission districts exists, and each county draws its own, so the map draws a county's district lines once the county's own map has been found or the county has sent one, and the rest are shaded until then. Every source is on the sources & data layers page.

Not for legal or official use. Boundary and officeholder data come from public sources that explicitly disclaim legal precision. Confirm officeholders with your county before relying on them for anything official.

Every county government, county by county

Every Missouri county whose roster this project has: 114 counties, 364 people, each name as the Missouri Secretary of State's Missouri Roster prints it, or the county's own website where its page is kept up to date between editions.
