Chicago is divided into 22 police districts, each split into smaller beats. Your district isn't the same as your ward or your ZIP code — it's the Chicago Police Department's own boundary system, and the beat is the smaller patrol area inside it.

What the lookup shows
Select any point in Chicago and the police district card shows the district number that covers it, the beat inside that district, and the nearest police station.
Each police district also has an elected Police District Council — the map has a layer for those too, with the council members for your district: see your District Council.
Police district vs. ward
They're different systems that rarely share boundaries. Your ward is a City Council district represented by an alderperson; your police district is how CPD organizes patrol and command. The same address always has one of each, and the map shows both at once if you toggle both layers.
Where the boundaries come from
District and beat boundaries come from the Chicago Police Department's published GIS data; every layer's exact source is listed on the sources & data layers page. The map is free, requires no login, and sets no tracking cookies.
